Since we came in after sunset last night, we didn't get to see Sedona beauty until today. Opened up our curtains in our inn and saw this. "Wow" is all I can say. This was the first of many wows today.
First stop was to the Sedona visitors center where we asked questions, got maps, and some tips.
Next stop was a 1 minute walk to Wildflower restaurant where we got lunch for later.
I wanted to make sure we had lunch when we were out on the hike. I loved the glass blown flowers in the restaurant.
We began our drive down Hwy 179 where many of the top sites are on. We went to the Chapel of the Holy Cross. My gaze was up, up, up and we just couldn't believe the beauty around us.
The chapel was serene and a spot for prayer and contemplation.
From the chapel area, we could see magnificent views.
We chose a hike that we thought was manageable for the both of us. Little Horse Trail, 3.0 miles in and out, 300 feet elevation. Not too bad. We ended up going beyond Little Horse Trail to Chicken Point.
It took us 2.5 hours with some time up at Chicken Point. Started at 10:35AM and finished at 12:55PM.
Aren't all of these colors and mountainous structures incredible? The hike was fun! Conversation was great. Colors in the sky were AMAZINGLY blue. Note: The weather in SF was quite the opposite. Thunder, lightening and hailstorm. We chose a great week to get away!
We got back to the parking lot, pulled out our lunches and hungrily ate!
Oh it felt so good to fill our tummies!
We went to Tlaquepaque, Aztec for the best of everything to do some window shopping. Such beautiful art, homeware and clothing. Came away empty handed. We noted that prices in Sedona were comparable to San Francisco. Coffee is $7/cup!
We stopped in at the Chai Spot for a drink. I had the traditional chai and Carina had the butter chai. We enjoyed our beverages and our conversation with the two staff people, Katrina and Marisa. Both were born and raised in the area. They shared that there's not much in the area for young people to do unless they like hiking. Many people try to leave the Sedona/Cottonwood area and move to more urban cities like Phoenix and Flagstaff. They also shared that the prices are high because people from California move to Sedona and the prices of housing and goods go up. The residents then move to the outskirts because they can't afford it. Guess this happens every where.
Pretty outdoor space at the Chai Spot.
We went to the Airport Mesa known for it's beautiful scenic spot to see the sunset.
