Lakeport/Clear Lake
December 19, 2022
Reanna, Kevin, and I drove 2.5 hours to Lakeport, CA to attend Aunt Marilyn's funeral service. She lived in Clear Lake. I've never been to Lakeport/Clear Lake and was surprised at the super winding roads we had to travel on to get there. We must have taken the back roads. It was so cold there was snow along the side of the road. Brrrrr.
We joined our cousins, Anna and Ben, at Aunt Marilyn's service. It's good to come together to remember a loved one. Aunt Marilyn is the ex-wife of Uncle Shiu. Uncle Shiu, my mom's brother (he was number 7 of 9), passed in 2016. Aunt Marilyn died unexpectedly. Now Anna and Ben have lost both of their parents.
I am sad for them. I imagine it is difficult for a parent to die.
Lately, I've been thinking about aging, death, immortality a lot. I've been to five funerals in two months. Death is a sad event no matter how old the person was when they died.
I'm not sure how prepared for death anyone ever is. I hope to die a quick and painless death. I hope to die before Victor so that I don't have to take care of the stuff that he usually takes care of: bills, going to the bank, car stuff, plumbing issues, etc.
The cousins had a meal together after the service. It was nice to connect, though wish the connection were under different circumstances.
