Because two people in my cousin's place have Covid, mom wanted to test herself. She doesn't have any symptoms. Mom's worried about getting sick and not enjoying our travels, especially to Japan. We leave in a day for Tokyo. Her results are negative. She was so happy.
We've been masking everywhere.
We took the ding ding tram from Wan Chai to Tin Hau to go back
to our beloved spot for breakfast: Sang Kee. In 2017, when Robin and Vance got married, the six of us came to attend the wedding and stayed in Tin Hau. This breakfast place was the best. Jook, yow tiu, noodles. All the yumminess in one spot.
We got mixed meat congee and fried doughnut wrapped in noodle. Perfect amount for the two of us.
We took the MTR from Tin Hau to Sai Ying Pun, a new MTR station.
We're going to meet my cousin Robin and his wife. We saw them in Sydney last September! I love the art murals at this station. Such detail, vibrancy in colors and the cultural relevance in the scene.
As we exited out of the station and walked on First Street, we past mom's "house". She used to live on this block. Her four story high building has long since been demolished and replaced with a high rise apartment building. She pointed to these steps that she took to and from school, Sacred Heart.
We ate at Sleep Well Eat More. They specialize in basque cheesecake. Vance is a really good cook and has tried her hand at making basque cheesecake. Vance and Robin have tried other spots for cheesecake as well and were making comments about visuals, texture, and taste. What food connouseiurs! I enjoyed my pistachio cheescake and latte.
After our yummy treat, we decided to go to The Peak. The busride was windy and I was glad mom had ginger in her bag. I really should carry some wherever I go. As we walked along the fairly flat path, we can across the High West Point trail. Vance and Robin were telling that they did this trail last week at the beginning of the new year and there we tons of people. Mom and I decided to give it a try. Robin and Vance waited for us while we did the trail. Haha.
578 steps later, we got to the top and saw the views overlooking both sides. Super pretty! Would've have been more amazing if there wasn't fog/smog. But lovely just the same.
We took the bus back down and went to Causeway Bay for a walk in search of a gold bangle for someone who's getting married in June.
We had dinner in Wan Chai. Dumpling, dan dan mein, and red bean pastry dessert. Had to take the dessert home cause we were stuffed. I really gotta stop mom from ordering too much. These items taste best out of the kitchen, not after we bring them home.
One thing we've noticed is that there are "fewer" people in Hong Kong. It's not as crowded as before. I love it. But soon, the "borders" will open and more people will be coming down from China. We might see a difference after our trip to Japan. For now, I'm really enjoying the lack of "crowds."
This was our stop at Sai Ying Pun today. Granted it was more away from the central area, but still. I don't usually see the MTR like this.
Masking is mandatory in inside and outside in public spaces. We've been told that the mask mandates will lift in a couple of months. I'm so interested to see how many people will still weart masks.
We do a lot in a day.
All the food looks soooo good. Envy envy envy.
