Back to Hong Kong for a week...

Mom got her new glasses with her elder health care voucher! They look really good and mom's happy that she was able to use her voucher while in Hong Kong. She had a cumulative of $8,000 HKD.

I love this baby- Luca. He's the cutest and happiest baby ever. He's starting to stand and babbling a lot.

Mom and I went to get our hair cut at a spot where you can get a dry haircut for $88 HKD.

Mr. Tang is a master teacher of hair. He teaches other to cut hair. He asked me whether my waves were natural or a perm. They are natural and I love that my hair has body! He told me how to style my hair. When my hair is damp, I can add some oil on it to keep it smooth, otherwise it would be fly away hair.

A pic of the owner who talked A LOT with mom.

I like my hair cut! Notice my eyebrows in this picture on the right.
More to come later about my eyebrows.

Arthur's in HK as well! He's visiting family and friends. He says this is his last time coming to Hong Kong. The flight is too long and he can't take it! He took ANA/Japan Airlines and had the entire row to himself. It's intentional to take ANA vs Cathay Airlines (that many people like). Not as many people take ANA so there are empty seats and you can lie down to sleep.

Arthur had a pineapple bun with butter. He just bit into it without spreading the butter around. Intereseting!

There are no rules for babies to sit in car seats in Hong Kong. We were going out to dinner and needed all the seats available in the car. So Luca, just sat in the carrier.

Haley is Paul's daughter. She's 10 and is in fifth grade. I can't believe she's so grown up! Grandpa has such a good time with Luca!

Paul, Vikki, Emily and me! Cousins who barely see or talk to each other gather together tonight. It's hard to get to know the cousins in HK well because of the distance. I would like to be more intentional about communicating and strengthening relationships.

Paul thinks Covid is a hoax and that we should not have to mask. The masks are useless. He says the data hasn't changed in terms of death before and after the vaccine

We out to dim sum with Uncle Li and Auntie Annie! Good time catching up.

Auntie Annie went with us to look for MJ table covers. I'm pretty sure that we have this in the US, but maybe it's better in HK?

Some fun play time with Luca!

Matteo made carbonara for us. Guanciale is pig cheek which is an essential ingredient in carbonara.

Matteo grated the cheese. Emily and Matteo realized that they didn't have any black pepper because Emily brought the pepper to school for a demonstration. There was a lot of back and forth about going to the neighbor's to borrow some pepper. In Cantonese, these gesture is called: borrow some soy sauce.
The helper across the way lent them some peppercorns that they had to mash up.

Here's Emily trying to mash up the peppercorns. Two cooks in the kitchen preparing our Italian meal!

You need to mix raw eggs with the grated pecorino cheese. He ended up using five eggs.

Must cook the guanciale in the pan and leave the grease in as the oil/flavor.

Add the cooked pasta into pan.

If you need to add water, make sure to use the water that the pasta was cooked in. Turn off the stove and add the cheese and egg mixture to the past. Technically, this dish has raw egg in it. Pregnant people shouldn't eat it.

We had some artichokes to go with the pasta. And baby Luca is so cute.

The carbonara was divine. We also had mozzarella. Mom wasn't a fan.

After dinner, we went to celebrate the mass the Neo-cathecumeal Way. The mass was about two hours long. The Way has opportunities for people to  share summaries and reflections before readings and after the gospel. There is a lot of participation from the community.

Mass was joyous with song. After mass, Claire ate dinner at 11:00PM and Emily and Matteo joined her at the table and talked about the day.

Mom and I took our first walk up to Bowen Road.

Yummy and unique dim sum at Parkview.

Catching up with Cousin Lisa and family.

Super fun checking out the artwork in the museum in the building. The owners of the building/complex own lots of art and they rotate their art throughout the year. So cool.

Playing with baby Luca is always so much fun.

February 20, 2023

Matteo walked with us on Bowen Road this morning. From the road we could see their flat.

Lunch at Shing's Kitchen. Mom had fish lung soup. Apparently, you can't get that in the US.

Eliza, Auntie Loretta's helper. was super helpful in getting our groceries and meeting mom's shopping list.

We had some snacks and milk tea at the Jockey Club with Candy.
Mom met a friend for dinner and I went out with my friend too!

Candy and I ate at a vegetarian restaurant. So fun to catch up.

February 21, 2023

We walked down to Wan Chai to get some won ton and dumplings for lunch for Matteo and Emily's family.

Oh my, those stairs. We usually take the bus back up from shopping, but we decided to walk this morning.

Had dim sum with Simon and Linda.

It's never enough time to get together with family. The visits are short and quick over a meal.

Dinner at Shing's Kitchen. Specialty dishes made by my new friend, Candy.

Giselle, Simon's Daughter, likes the book I got her!

February 22, 2023

We went to Vikki's work to meet her. She bought some Starbucks merchandise for us in Japan.

More jook!

Here's our lovely hot beverage containers from Japan. Sakura (cherry blossom) Collection.

Mom and I went to get bean curd in Kowloon. It's known/famous for their bean curd.

Mom and I headed to get our eyebrows done. We walked quite a ways...I would say two miles.

Passed the textiles neighborhood. Fascinating to see all the materials, buttons, and ribbons!

Here we are getting ready to get the brows done.

Before and after. I quite like my brows. They are dark here since they were recently done. But they will fade. The look is quite natural.

Another walk on Lee Tung Avenue. Egg tart!

One more cup of cappuccino before we leave!

Mom made sticky rice for them!

Dumplings for lunch!

More egg tarts!

Had to go back to the eyebrow place for a touch up.

Dinner with Victor's cousin and family!

Love my brows. Haha!

We wrapped gok jai. But we had to use won ton skin and it just wasn't the same. Still good though.

Request for another cup of cappuccino.

Wet market is super fresh and fun to check out. I always wonder about safety food practices. No need to refrigerate?

Platform shoes are in.

January 25, 2023

One more meal of congee and fried donuts wrapped in rice noodle.

Bought some wife cake from Sogo's food court! This place is known for it!

Bought some noodles back for dad. And that's a wrap for HK...went to airport and flew back home. Great trip. So tired. Good to go home and rest and gear up for next trip.
